How to Shop for Used Cars in Auto Sales Shops

Author: The Internet Adventure

Shopping for used cars is a tricky job if you don't know what to look for. Car dealers can easily sweet talk you into buying something less than your money's worth and nobody wants that. Auto sales attract a lot of customers because of low prices but two bad things can happens to you during the process. First, you become overwhelmed by the selection, and two, because of that feeling, you end up buying something you might regret later. To avoid wasting energy and money, follow these practical tips whenever you're in an auto sales shop for used cars:

Assess the auto sales shop. If the place you're buying a vehicle in is a franchise car dealer, then you're more likely to get better options. These car dealers often get first pick of the trade-ins and off-lease vehicles and tend to have a stronger inventory. The cars passed over by franchise dealers are sent to auction, where most other used car dealers get their vehicles. If they aren't a franchise dealer, ask for certification on the used cars as well as limited warranty. This is the next best thing from buying a brand new car.

Check for manufacturers online. Most manufacturers of used cars list their inventory online. For example, the BMW Web site lets you search certified pre-owned inventories within a 500-mile radius of your home town. It's time and energy saving if you're not up to shopping around for used cars for sale.

History tells all. Check for the vehicles history. Get the VIN, or vehicle identification number, to check a car's history at Carfax or Auto Check. Be on the lookout for a mileage discrepancy or a salvage/junk record. Also note if the used car has crossed state lines. State salvage laws vary, and a state-to-state move could be an attempt to hide problems. Again, the internet is a convenient place to research about the vehicle you want to buy. Consumer Reports are good sources of information of which car models to buy from used car shops.

A used car for sale should also have safety records as part of its history. How are the crash test results? What about consumer complaints and the manufacturer's technical bulletin? You may not find all you want to know about the vehicle but it's a good take-off point in terms of which used cars to head for and which ones to avoid.

Looks may not tell all, but it does tell a lot. It is only logical to look at the details of a used car when you're planning on buying it. Are the interiors too worn? Does the body kit look sound? How does the engine sound? Are there leaks when the car is on? Car dealers can steer you away from a car's defects and as someone who might not know a lot about cars, you can get a bad deal. If you can ask someone to be there with you—someone who knows a thing or two about looking at used cars, the better off you will be upon leaving the auto sales lot.

Settle only for the retail price. After choosing the car you want, the negotiations start. Prices of cars for sale vary depending on retail, wholesale, or trade-in. Always ask for the retail price. Prices may also vary according to condition and mileage. Research about a car's retail price from reliable websites or other possible sources of information. You likely will find discrepancies from guide to guide but as a tip, most retail values run about $500 to $1,000 higher than the actual cost.

How to Maintain New and Used Car and Truck Tires in Tampa FL

Author: Business Local Listings

Whether you bought new car tires or used truck tires for your vehicle, you will have to maintain them in order to give them longer lives. Remember, there are really no cheap tires. Even retread used truck tires will still cost you. The only cheap tires you will find are those that may not be worth buying or are not safe to use in Tampa FL.

Used truck tires are, by comparison, less expensive than new tires. People, therefore, usually recommend that you purchase used truck tires instead of new tires. There are good quality used truck tires, though, and used truck tires that are no longer safe for the road. The used truck tires that are road worthy are retread used truck tires from reputable sources and accompanied by warranties. Do not get used truck tires from dealers you have not checked for reliability. They are most likely taken from used vehicles without benefit of retreading. Be wise in your cost-cutting and opt only for reliable used truck tires and then maintain them properly in the same way as new tires in Tampa FL.

As soon as tires are mounted tire balancing is done. If ever they need to be remounted, for instance after any repairs, tire rebalancing should again be done. Unbalanced tires may cause vibrations when the vehicle is driven. This is sometimes referred to as a “shimmy.” It also results in tires wearing out sooner. Whenever you feel any shimmy or vibration in the car, you should have your tires rebalanced.

Another basic requirement for tire maintenance is wheel alignment. The angles of the wheels are based on the car manufacturer’s specifications as indicated in the car manual. Following the proper wheel alignment ensures that the vehicle runs straight when driven and does not pull toward one side or the other. Proper alignment also ensures even wear on tires. Unaligned wheels, on the other hand, result in tires that are more worn on one edge as compared to the other.

Routine tire maintenance also includes regular tire rotation. Front tires and rear tires are exchanged because being used in front results in more wear on the tire. Tire rotation ensures uniform wear on all four tires. Once switched, the tires’ inflation is also adjusted based on specifications of the car manufacturer for front and rear tires.

It is very important to observe proper tire inflation. Over-inflation and under-inflation are both damaging and cause uneven wear on tires. In over-inflated tires, the tire center gets more worn while in under-inflated tires the tire edges get more worn. Small air leaks in the tires may go unnoticed so a monthly check on tire inflation is necessary. Inflation is based on the recommendations of the car manufacturer as indicated in the car manual.

The way you drive your vehicle is also a factor in tire maintenance. Speeding has a negative effect on tire durability and results in more wear and tear. This is because high speeds generate high heat that is detrimental to rubber. Other harmful driving practices include panic stops, skids, fast starts and fast turns. Neither should you drive your vehicle on the edges of pavements, over curbs or over potholes and other impediments. They all wear out your tires faster and could actually damage them.

The tire’s load rating should be observed properly, too. This is specified by the manufacturer, as well. Not observing the load rating could result in overloading your tire which, in turn, could cause a dangerous blow out.

Take care of your new car tires or used truck tires and you will most likely enjoy them for along time in Tampa FL.

Bankruptcy in Tampa

Author: Strategic Media Inc

Bankruptcy is when an individual or a company can't pay their debt, thus they file legal paper work stating their financial issues.  Once it is approved, that individual is no longer responsible for their debts they once had.  Are you an individual who is facing extreme debts?  If so then you may need to file bankruptcy.  Bankruptcy can be a complicating and gruesome process.  Courts don't give people special treatment when they purse a bankruptcy case with an attorney absent.  If you don't have an attorney to represent you for the case it can complicate the affair.  Finding the correct attorney for your specific situation can be a challenge, because you want to make sure they take your case serious instead of just trying to collect another check.  There are two popular options for filling a bankruptcy in Tampa.  An individual can file under Chapter 7 or under Chapter 13.  Each of these bankruptcy filings have certain requirements that must be met before it's considered.  There are many definitions of each of these filings in books and on the internet which are extremely hard for an individual to understand, who is not familiar with them.

Chapter 7 is the most popular type of bankruptcy that people file under.  Chapter 7 is often called liquidation bankruptcy or straight bankruptcy.  The unsecured debt of an individual, such as bank debt and health expenses is removed, and any of the assets that are not exempted will be liquidated.  One's house is considered to be exempted because the Florida Constitution shields it from being liquated.  Filing a Chapter 7 bankruptcy is an extremely quick procedure and often will only take two months to process.  Filing under a Chapter 13 bankruptcy is another popular type of bankruptcy to individuals in Tampa.  A Chapter 13 bankruptcy is when an individual is required to pay a certain percentage of their debts.  This percentage is considered by the court that is reviewing your case.  This kind of bankruptcy is particularly helpful in terminating IRS debt and second mortgages that you may have acquired.  Chapter 13 bankruptcy filings are mostly used by individuals who are trying to keep their house from being fore closured.

Automotive Transmission Maintenance Tips from a Tampa Mechanic

Author: Business Local Listings

Perhaps the most common reason car owners have in bringing their cars to automotive mechanics in Tampa is for auto AC repair. In hot weather, we immediately notice it when the auto AC malfunctions. A responsible mechanic will take the opportunity to suggest a full diagnostic auto service inspection of the vehicle during this session. He will check the vehicle’s engine, brakes and transmission, among others.

According to our Tampa mechanic, they find that although the engine and the brakes are usually well taken care of, maintenance of the transmission system is often neglected by Tampa car owners. Since car transmission repair is quite expensive, it would be wise to observe proper transmission maintenance instead. Here are some of the transmission maintenance tips from our Tampa mechanic.

Regularly check the color and level of the transmission fluid. It should be red. Once it turns brown or emits any burnt smell, it needs to be changed immediately. If the transmission fluid does not exhibit any change in color or odor, change the transmission fluid and filter based on the maintenance schedule. As a rule, flush the transmission every 15,000 to 20,000 miles, or every two years at the maximum.

Use only the brand of transmission fluid recommended by the car manufacturer. If you have to switch brands for any reason, never mix different brands of transmission fluid.

Regularly check transmission sensors and modulator valves; clean the transmission using specialty cleaning fluid; and change the fluid in the torque converter.

Observe proper driving habits to prevent damage to the car transmission system. If you are driving in reverse, come to a full stop before shifting to drive. Do not ever shift the vehicle from reverse to drive while the car is moving.

Only shift from park to drive while in normal idle speed, never on a higher speed.

Before putting the car into park, step on the brake pedal first and apply the emergency brake. This protects the car transmission system by putting the stress on the emergency brake.

Use the car overdrive properly if your vehicle has it. This is the highest gear in the transmission. It is the fourth gear in a four speed automatic transmission and the fifth gear in a five speed manual transmission with overdrive. Turn off the overdrive when driving in mountainous terrain or when you the vehicle is carrying or towing a heavy load. Failure to do so will cause the transmission to repeatedly upshift and downshift, leading to possible damage.

Carrying or towing heavy loads should actually be avoided. This is dangerous for the transmission system since it builds up heat that can burn out the components of the transmission. Other common causes of dangerous overheating include racing, hot weather traffic with repeated stop-and-go driving, and attempting to get a car unstuck from snow or mud by repeatedly putting it in drive and reverse. An auxiliary transmission cooler mounted on the car radiator can be used to cool the transmission fluid if these situations are unavoidable in your lifestyle.

Although some of these maintenance procedures could be done by vehicles owners, it is best to have the transmission system checked regularly by professional mechanics. Not only are they more qualified to identify any current problems in your car but they could also spot any issues that could become potential problems in the future, alert the owner to them and apply the necessary preventive measures.

Proper maintenance of the transmission system will extend its life and the car’s life. It will also keep the vehicle’s driver and passengers, as well as other Tampa motorists and pedestrians, safe on the road.

Used truck tires as alternative to new ones

Author: Melanie Libatique

New tires can be pretty expensive especially if they are intended for trucks.  Truck tires are made to withstand heavier workloads so their production cost is more expensive. However, because of the financial crisis that the economy has been facing, truck owners are having a hard time coping with the rising prices of new tires.

Good thing there is another option available now. Truck owners will definitely save money if they choose to buy used truck tires instead of new ones. They can perform just as well as new ones and they can also last just as long, especially if they come with warranties. Any truck owner just has to find the right retailer that offers good deals in Tampa, Florida.

There are rumors circulating that settling for used truck tires mean settling for something with inferior quality. This is not true. Do not be swayed by this false notion. These are cheap tires, yes; but inferior? Only when you buy them from unreliable sources. It is true that there are some dealers that sell substandard and cheap tires that are no longer safe to be used in any type of vehicle. And this is very dangerous because mounting substandard products can harm not only the driver and passengers of the truck but also the other commuters and pedestrians.

So before buying in Tampa, know the right place to do business and equip yourself with ample knowledge. Check the treads for wear and tear patterns. If the wear runs own the center of the tread, the tires have been driven while over-inflated by previous owners. If the wear runs down both edges of the tread, then the they have been driven while under-inflated. If the wear runs down to only one side, then the they have been driven by the previous owners while misaligned. Logic dictates to discard items such as these.

Another part that should be inspected is the bead and side walls. Beads are the portion of tires that fits the rim of the wheel. Side walls, on the other hand, are literally the side of the tires. The bead, whether new or used, must be undamaged or otherwise, they will not fit the rim properly. When it comes to side walls, refrain from buying used tires with deep cuts on this portion. If you are not familiar with these parts, you can ask your mechanic to come with you on the date of purchase.

Lastly, to be safe on your venture on purchasing used tires, always choose the units that have been retreaded or remanufactured. Retreading or remanufacturing ensures that the old treads of have been completely removed and replaced with new rubber. Experts of the automotive industry all agree that retreaded or remanufactured units still have superior road traction and durability. Proof? Even commercial truck companies in Tampa use retreaded tires.

Unraveling Car Jargon

Author: Tyler Redman

This article is for anybody who wonders what on earth people are talking about when it comes to cars!

1) The Chassis, this is the skeleton of the car, it is a metal frame that makes up a car together, including the body, suspension, wheels etc.

2) The Drivetrain, these are all the devices that create power for the car and transfers it to the road. Such as the wheels, transmission, engine etc.

3) The Transmission, these are the gears. It is because of the transmission that a car can go at various speeds. If you had no transmission you would have one gear and therefore one speed.

4) The Wheelbase, this refers to the space between the rear and front wheels.

5) The Litre Size of The Engine, cars will be given a number in litres, such as 1.3. What this is talking about is how much space the engine has to hold the fuel and air mix. The bigger this space is the greater the power a car can generate.

6) How Much Horsepower, this is how you denote the amount of power any given engine has.

7) Torque, this is how much rotational power the engine creates. The more torque a car has the more flexible and powerful it is. It is pretty much talking about the power an engine holds.

8) Handling, this refers to how well a car performs when cornering or turning.

9) 4WD, this means four wheel drive and labels a car that is able to power all four of its wheels with the engine, unlike regular cars that only power two wheels.

10) Turbocharged, cars that are turbocharged have a turbocharger, this is a device that squeezes fuel into the engines at a faster rate which allows the engine to produce more power.

11) CO2 emissions, this refers to how much carbon dioxide a car vents through the exhaust system. People use this number to determine how friendly to the environment a car is, it can also determine how much car tax you have to pay in certain areas.

12) Start Stop Technology, this refers to modern technology that allows engines to stop when the car is not moving, for example at lights, and then start again as soon as you need to get moving. This is better for the environment and saves you on fuel costs.

13) Hybrids, hybrid engines are engines that create power using electric motors as well as petrol. When moving slowly the electric motor kicks in and saves on CO2 emissions and gas, then when you need more power the petrol engine takes over.

14) Metallic, metallic paint is more expensive than standard paint because it looks more reflective. This is because of metallic particles mixed in with the paint that reflect light.

15) RPM, revs per minute are an indication of how much the engine is struggling in any given gear. With high revs it means you need to go up a gear because the engine is working incredibly hard at that particular gear.

16) Cruise Control, this is a device that allows you to lock the current speed of a car in place.

17) TDI - FSI, these stand for Turbo Direct Injection and Fuel Stratified Injection and refer to methods in which fuel is injected into the engine. TDI refers to diesel engines while FSI refers to petrol.

18) Climate Control, this is where you adjust the air con, heating and ventilation.

19) Sports Suspension, with sports suspension the suspension has been designed to provide better handling.

Worst Auto Repair Experiences That Happened In Tampa

Author: Mimi Aringo

No one wants to get their car broken and deal with auto repair. And no one will ever want to deal with bad automotive mechanic in a bad auto repair shop in Tampa. But encountering worst auto repair experiences because of unskilled automotive mechanic and auto repair shop that does not know how to give proper services happens in Tampa. As car owners, we do not want these things to happen to us. Here are some personal experiences that may help us avoid getting caught in what can possibly be categorized as the worst auto repair experience in our life.

1. Dealing with auto repair shop guys that know the problem but did nothing to solve it.

Let's face it some auto repair shop guys are all about the money. There have been reports from car owners in Tampa that there are auto repair shop facilities that will not do anything to your car or solve any auto repair problems if you have not yet given the amount that they want you to give them as initial down payment. While having a down payment system is a normal thing when dealing with auto repair shop facilities, that is not to say that mechanics should not begin working  on your vehicle as soon as they receive it. There are automotive laws stating that auto repair shops should never say no to a client on the basis of financial incapabilities. Though of course, you still need to pay the auto repair shop before you can have your car back.

2. Getting your car back in a worse condition than when you brought it in an auto repair shop.

This is the most common problem that car owners in Tampa face. This often stems out of misdiagnosis which is consequently cause by incompetent staff or automotive mechanic. As if what they did is not bad already, but there are instances when they will not even give you  refund for the auto repair mistake they did to your vehicle. Having a full refund for a failed auto repair service is the right of every consumer. If they do not want to give it back to you, report them to authorities.

3. Rude automotive mechanic that charges so many dubious fees.

As if being rude and giving bad services is not enough, there are rude automotive mechanic guys who charges so many dubious fees. According an automotive mechanic from Scott's Automotive, there are auto repair shops that really double charge their clients since their clients often do not have an idea of the breakdown of the services they are paying. A great tip he gave is that car owners should make the automotive mechanic explain each of the following services found on the service receipt. Most automotive mechanics are rattled by this uncommon action and you can spot whether they are caught off guard and lying about their fees.

As car owners, we are in charge of how we will be treated by these auto repair facilities. So be vigilant and stern so that auto repair people know they are dealing with someone who keeps a close watch on them.
